United Minds of Lexington host Juneteenth celebration

LEXINGTON, Tenn.—In Lexington, one organization is celebrating Juneteenth with a special event.

United Minds of Lexington hosts its Juneteenth Freedom Day. The event kicked off at 11 in the morning at 125 Montgomery Way.

Organizers say it’s important to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday, and what better way than time spent with loved ones, enjoying delicious food, and fun activities for all ages.

This year’s event was extra special as it also includes a BBQ cook-off. Guests could enjoy contest fare or grab something from one of the many vendors in attendance.

Awards were presented to BBQ contest winners and a bicycle giveaway was also held.

“I just want everyone to know that we’re breathing new and fresh life back into this historic place. This fall we are launching the youth and adult performing arts workshop with modeling, acting, and leadership classes. We’re also doing our annual fundraising gospel concert September 27th from 2pm until 4pm and I’ll be headlining, so I hope to see you all there,” said Parrish Rashad, Performing Arts Director.

United Minds presents this celebration every year as Juneteenth is celebrated June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S.
