Final Day of ‘Fire on the Water’ competition

LEXINGTON, Tenn.—The final day of racing on the water at Beech Lake continues.

The Fire on the Water Boat Races conclude today in Lexington. The races started shortly after 9 this morning at Beech Lake and continued until 5.

The competition presented by the River Ratt Drag Association brings various boat owners together to see who has the fastest vessel.

Tickets are only $10 to experience the sights, and sounds of high powered racing. There were also vendors and food trucks on site.

The competition includes all types of boats like speed, flat bottom, jet and V-drives.

And the crowds continued to show up and cheer for their favorites with some boats reaching speeds of more than 170mph.

“Right now the quickest boat we’ve got, our QE boat on the national circuit. They’ll cover the thousand foot, cause in six seconds at over a 150mph. Then, below that you have your pro eliminator boats. They’ll run 140 mph to 150 mph in 6.5 seconds in the thousand foot. Then, below that you have your top eliminators which are a 7 second thousand foot boat. Then your modified eliminators, which are an eight second thousand foot boat. They cover that over 3 football fields in each second. That’s pretty quick,” said Roger Monroe, Commentator at ‘Fire on the Water’ Races.

Locals tell us it has been over 15 years since a race event of this magnitude has happened at Beech Lake.
