Trey Smith holds second annual Football Camp
Trey is a Jackson native from usj who went on to play for Vols football
and become a two time super bowl champion with the Kansas city
chiefs. In the offseason he puts on this camp for the kids in the community
and talks about one thing that was different from last year’s camp.
“So we were looking to try and move it to a coolier time period but you know it’s a really good time period once again a ton of support from a lot of my close friends.”
Camps like these are to get better at your game and of course have fun.
So Trey stresses the impact football camps had on him growing up and
how important a time like this is for up and coming athletes.
“I mean as a football player just sort of setting the foundation especially at an early age getting the drill work and all the discipline that’s needed to be a successful football player
you know learning at an early age down here it was super important.”
Several former NFL athletes also came out to not only support but help coach in drills and teaching technique. It gives the campers an up close
and personal experience to what you can accomplish if you give your best.
There is alot to take from an experience like this such as being competitive, making friends and holding on to memories you will never forget. However, those aren’t the only things that can benefit these young athletes going forward.
“I would think just hard work this year. You know, being able to push through it
we want to be safe with the heat and everything. These are young cats right now but just being able to push through and have fun have a basic foundation of fundamentals more importantly have fun.”
“Coolier weather coolier weather that’s the vision that’s the hope man”
