Community Champion: Lisa Lovelace
It’s time to recognize a Community Champion, an honor given to people making a positive impact in the community. It’s in partnership with Leaders Credit Union.
For the past couple of years, Lisa Lovelace has been helping to transform the Beech Bluff recreation center, not just the building but also the environment.
“You know we’re trying to do our best to provide a safe place for kids to come that they feel like you know they can actually do stuff,” shared Lovelace.
Every month you can find a fun and creative activity taking place at the center.
“We’ve been trying to do movies, our Nerf night, glow in the dark Nerf night is pretty big. Bingo’s huge,” Lovelace said.
In addition to bringing the fun, Lovelace is helping to bring a wide variety of renovations and improvements to the Beech Bluff recreation center.
“We had our lobby renovated, like the flooring, we got paint, we did a whole new color scheme. And then like the gym, we did the same color scheme inside. So we painted the walls gray with the blue accents, and we had some lights donated and put up. Then we had our floor sanded and redone, repainted, restriped all that good stuff,” Lovelace detailed.
Lisa Lovelace has also applied for grants to continue making the center the best it can be.
“I got $5500 the first time I applied, and that went towards more playground equipment, then I applied again, and I got $3500 and we just bought a squat machine, a hack squat machine, the bench, a bunch of weights. We’re just trying to get something that will bring more people in and the community can use,” Lovelace explained.
Lovelace says the Beech Bluff recreation center has a way of bringing people together.
“I think it’s great that you can have a place where people feel comforable to come together. It doesn’t matter their age, or their background, or the color of their skin, or anything like that. Where they’re just all welcome. They come in, they’re going to have a good time,” Lovelace said.
To help support the Beech Bluff recreation center, you can bring donations to the center or mail them in to 4488 Beech Bluff Road, Beech Bluff, TN 38313. You can also take your donation to the Madison County Parks and Recreation department and let them know it’s for Beech Bluff recreation center.
