Lowell Poston Morris
Poston was born in Mercer Tennessee, Haywood County, on November 12, 1934 and attended Haywood County High School.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jo Ann Malone Morris and children, Lowell Steven “Steve” Morris (Rhonda), Connie Morris Brandon (Terry Rhodes), and Carla Morris Rader (Jeffrie “Jeff”). He leaves behind six grandchildren, Joshua “Josh” Rader, Jacob Brandon, Aaron Morris (Taylor), Ashton Rader (Christian “Crissi”), Brooks Morris and Breeanna “Bree” Rader. He also leaves behind six great grandchildren, Halle Miller, Blake Rader, Kiley Rader, Kynlee Powell, Hunt Rader and Camilo Morris.
He was a member of Poplar Heights Baptist Church over 60 years, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Association. While serving in the Navy Air Force, he was selected the “Honor Man” of a ninety-six man company based on his leadership, morale, support and motivation.
He and Jo Ann were self-employed owners/operators of a 24-hour service station and 24-hour wrecker service for 20 years, as well as holding full-time jobs with the city and Madison County respectively. He served as a full-time police officer and retired in 1993 as lieutenant for the Jackson Police Department.
Shortly after retiring, he worked for The United States Marshall service for several years. As a child, throughout his careers and until departure, he was taught to respect the land. He did so by producing some of the most beautiful, largest and bountiful vegetables, flowers and fruits at his house, your house and anywhere a piece of land was offered for your pleasure as well as his. He planted multiple fruit and nut trees, had at least an acre of vegetable gardens as well as a large assortment of beautiful flowers. Oftentimes, the surrounding wildlife enjoyed the fruits of his labor more than desired. Even so, he enjoyed sharing with family, friends and neighbors and it was rare to leave his house empty handed.
He shared his love of the land, love of hunting, and love of God with stories at any opportunity (sometimes more than once and not always at a convenient time or place). We continue to see the beauty in everything he touched.
