Tech safety expert talks creating healthy digital habits in children

JACKSON, Tenn. — Some parents may be looking to navigate the digital habits of their children during the summer, when kids are most vulnerable to online threats and unhealthy screen use.

In a quick interview with tech safety expert Kristin Lewis, she talks details from security devices to building better habits.

She also provides tips on how families can gear toward smarter screen time and a more peaceful and safer summer.

“It’s a great time to pause and kind of figure out what are the boundaries you want to set in your household. And it’s important to know, there is no right answer. I think a lot of parents are like ‘Is it two hours? Is it three hours?’ It could be very different just depending on what’s right for your family,” said Lewis.

Since 2020, global social media use has surged by 20%, with kids aged 8 to 18 spending an average of 7 and a half hours daily on screens.

At the same time, two-thirds of parents think parenting is harder today than it was 20 years ago, citing the overuse of technology as the reason.
