Public pool season is in full swing
MILAN, Tenn. — With temps growing warmer this summer, there’s no better way to combat the heat than with a splash in the pool.
At the Milan City Pool, operation is open seven days a week, and public hours are from 12-5 p.m.
And the best part is the water slide!
“We’ve had the slide a few years and the kids really love that,” said Angie Wilson, pool manager for Milan City Pool. “Our pool only goes to five feet. It goes from three feet, progresses to four feet, and ends up in five feet; but yeah they do love the slide.”
Wilson says she’s been pool manager for quite some time and children are the reason she gets to continue making a difference.
“I’m a retired school teacher, I taught at Milan for thirty years, so I’ve just been around kid most of my life,” Wilson said. “So, I started doing this part time 12 to 14 years ago and have continued to do it after I retired.”
Children under 16 have to be accompanied by an adult, and here’s an important reminder to remember when you visit.
“Bring an ID because we’ve had too many kids jumping around and getting in trouble, so if you bring your ID that’d be great, and yeah, you’re going to have a good time if you come,” said lifeguard Andrew Caldwell.
According to Tennessee State Parks, swimmers should always stay hydrated, wear proper foot wear, stretch before swimming, wear a life jacket, swim sober, and check the weather forecast before you plan to hit the water.
“You definitely need to drink lots of water, wear lots of sunscreen,” added lifeguard Emily Foren. “We take a break every 50 minutes, and that’s the best time to get in the shade and cool down. You want to enjoy the water — we do too! But, we also need to stay in the shade and that’s why we have the break.”
There’s a $4 entry fee to enter the pool, which is located inside the Milan City Park at 350 Ellington Drive.
