Service members, first responders honored at annual White Squirrel Festival

KENTON, Tenn.– An annual festival continues this week here in West Tennessee. It’s the 40th Annual White Squirrel Festival in Kenton.

Monday evening, the spotlight was on service members and first responders with a special program honoring them at the Kenton City Gym.
There were special guest speakers, the singing of the National Anthem and a moment of silence to honor fallen service members and first responders…along with the playing of Taps.

Organizers tell us why this program is so important.

“My brother was in the military and we have a lot of friends that do the first responders end. So it’s just a lot for us. And it’s a very emotional night. I mean a lot of us get choked up, there’s tears shed, there’s laughter shed, you know…stories back and forth, passed. People just love it …it’s a great night,” said Demetria Spencer, president of the White Squirrel Festival Committee.

The White Squirrel Festival continues through Friday, July 4.
