Milan postal worker answers call for help
MILAN, Tenn. — What started as a normal route turned into a heroic save, as one postal worker went above and beyond the call of duty.

In February, Milan letter carrier, Carlos Greenway, filled in on a colleague’s route when he encountered a cry for help.
Upon inspection, Greenway saw an elderly resident who had fallen and immediately jumped into action.
“I was just thinking, ‘what if that was my grandma. I want someone to be there to help her,'” Greenway said. “I had to drag her to her bed and lift her up and put her on her bed, and I just called 911, and I called my supervisor to let her know, then I just waited with her until they arrived.”
According to Greenway, the resident was stuck for about 30 minutes before he arrived.

To honor his kindness, Greenway was presented the Postmaster General Hero Award from the USPS, which is given to those who perform a heroic act above and beyond the call of duty while on the job.
“Anything can happen on that route when you’re out delivering mail, so just being there and just having this job is amazing. It makes me feel like I picked the right job in the long-term, to be honest,” Greenway said.
Greenway has been on the job for almost a year in Milan and says this is the first encounter he has had where he had to come to the rescue.
“I just feel like if you hear a cry for help, you should go check and see if you can do anything to help them out, because you never know what’s going on, to be honest. Something might happen in the long-term for you and it’ll turn out to be good karma, so that’s why I’m glad it happened to me today,” said Greenway.

Greenway has not encountered the resident since the incident but is hopeful he will get the chance to see how she is doing.
The elderly resident was sent to the hospital and is now in a nursing home. She expressed her gratitude to Greenway and was adamant that he was an angel who saved her life.
