Officials share previews for local firework shows

JACKSON, Tenn. — From fireworks, to food and family fun, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this holiday weekend.

It’s time to celebrate one of America’s biggest holidays of the year, and if you’re looking for a place to do just that, there are some events happening right here in West Tennessee.

This Thursday, Independence Day celebrations are kicking off in Bolivar, Milan, and Medina. City officials encourage residents to come out and enjoy the festivities, food, and the show.

“Well, we encourage everyone to come out and help us celebrate Independence Day. Red, White, & Bolivar–this is our 5th year. Show starts at 7:30. It’ll be a lot of fun for the entire family,” said Julian McTizic, Bolivar Mayor.

Live music will be featured by Party Planet in Bolivar. And over in Milan, you can catch the Kimberlie Helton Band’s performance.

“For me, the excitement is to come and see so many different people. Young and old, black, white–just a whole diverse group to come out and celebrate a good, fun weekend. You know, to celebrate our freedom, and to hang out with our family” said Mayor McTizic.

Events will be continuing through the weekend with the Festival of the Lakes, Firefighter Freedom Festival, and much more.

We spoke with Chief Eric Turner with the Madison County Fire Department who says this weekend is all about bringing the community together in a fun and safe way.

“That’s why we do it, just to give back to the community. You know many years ago, we used to have fireworks shows and stuff here in Jackson, and it kind of went away for several years, so we kind of brought it back, and we added a little more to it by making it a festival and a place of friendly-family event that’s safe, where you can let your kids have a good time and you can enjoy yourself,” said Turner.

Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly event to go out and have a little bit of fun or you’re looking for a place to watch some amazing fireworks, there are loads of events happening right here in West Tennessee.
