What’s New Wednesday: Once Upon A Child

JACKSON, Tenn. — Once Upon A Child opened in the Hub City in May.

The business serves as a secondhand store where parents and guardians can find needed items for young children at discounted prices.

“Once Upon A Child offers a variety of kids’ gently used clothing items, toys, books, baby gear, equipment, we offer some furniture as well,” said owner Kristi Croom.

With items being gently used, Croom says that customers can expect up to 50-75% off normal retail prices.

But it’s not just a retail store — customers can also bring in their own kids’ items to potentially sell.

“Yeah, customers, all they do is come to the front, scan a QR code, and then once we get to your items, we sort through them, and then give cash on the spot for those items that we can purchase,” Croom said.

Croom tells us that while Once Upon A Child is a franchise, each store is locally owned and operated, which allows her to stay focused on the local community.

Beyond affordable prices, Croom mentions another highlight that helps them stand out.

“And then it’s also eco-friendly,” Croom said. “So by buying and selling secondhand, you reduce waste and you support sustainable consumption.”
