Instructor teaches free HVAC classes to local youth

JACKSON, Tenn. — One man is helping students learn valuable lessons and important skills to help jump start their careers.

TradeMentor Academy in west Jackson provides free HVAC classes for students who want to acquire their ESCO certification.

The academy provides lectures, hands-on activities and even live work where they go out into the community and work with real customers.

We spoke with the instructor and owner, Paul Diggs, on his reason to pursue education.

“You know, I’m an aged man and I can do something; I can give something back. So I started this program for anyone 18 to 26 who wants to learn a trade. I’m willing to teach them that trade because it’s been good to me and I hope it will be just as good for them,” said Diggs.

The academy’s goal is to provide each student with the skills they need for entry level positions.
