Milan prepares for annual firework show

MILAN, Tenn. — The City of Milan is gearing up for a big celebration.

Thursday evening is the annual firework show, hosted by the City and the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Staff were out early Thursday morning to set up the show and prepare on-lookers for a night to remember.

“My suggestion is leave it to the professionals,” said Milan Fire Department Fire Marshal John Williams. “You can come out and see a professional, high quality show! All it takes it that you just come and spend a little of your time. It doesn’t cost you anything to get into the park.”

Fireworks will light up the summer sky at or around 9 in the evening — but that’s not all the evening has to offer.

This year will feature live music at the amphitheater by the Kimberlie Helton Band.

There will also be a variety of food trucks and plenty of space to set up your lawn chairs to listen to music and enjoy the colorful displays in the sky without the hassle or danger of handling fireworks yourself.

Williams has helped organize and set up the firework show for years, and says there is just something about this holiday and being in hometown West Tennessee that keeps him coming back every year for more.

“The excitement is just unreal,” Williams said. “So every year when we shoot these fireworks, I don’t know what it is, you just get this feeling inside and you start to bubble up with excitement. It’s about celebrating our independence, and we get to be the lucky ones to get to blow up those fireworks. At the end when you hear the roar of the crowd cheering, it makes it all worth while.”

The fun starts at 6 p.m. at Milan City Park.
