Bill Sowell

William Moore “Bill” Sowell, 83, of Woodland Mills, passed away peacefully at his home on June 30, 2025. Born on February 26, 1942, in Union City, Bill was the son of the late T.C. and Kathleen (Moore) Sowell. He was a devoted husband to Vickie (Reed) Sowell, whom he married on June 23, 1963, and together they shared 62 wonderful years.

Bill was employed at the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, where he worked for 30 years before retiring. His commitment to community service was evident through his 45-year membership with the Obion County Rescue Squad, where he served as Region 4 Vice President for six years and held various other positions in the local rescue squad.

A man of faith, Bill was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. He was also an avid traveler and a passionate fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Tennessee Volunteer basketball. Bill was a true Patriot. His love for America, his home state of Tennessee and the town of Woodland Mills was well known.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Sowell of Woodland Mills; his sons, Barry Sowell and wife Cynda of Woodland Mills, and Chris Sowell and wife Sheryl of Millington; his brother, Jim Sowell and wife Donna of White Bluff; 8 grandchildren, Cody Sowell of Water Valley, Kentucky, Blake Sowell of Johnson Grove, Lon Sowell and Alec Sowell both of Paris, Paige Morganelli of Munford, Chase Sowell of Troy, and Kristopher Olson and Justin Way both of Pensacola, Florida; and 8 great-grandchildren, Meadow Sowell, Serenity Sowell, Jackson Sowell and Cooper Sowell all of Water Valley, Kentucky, Allison Brooke Morganelli of Munford and Hudson Way, Haven Way and Hadleigh Way all of Pensacola, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Mt. Zion Methodist Church near Union City, with Rev. John Carroll and Rev. Joe Thorn officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services at the church. Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Chase Sowell, Cody Sowell, Blake Sowell, Lon Sowell, Alec Sowell, Justin Way, Kristopher Olson, Jon Morganelli and Paige Morganelli.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Obion County Rescue Squad.

Bill will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of service and love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
