Community enjoys day of fun during Selmer Freedom Fest

SELMER, Tenn. — One Independence Day festival brought the community out for a day filled with fun and excitement.

We visited the Selmer Freedom Fest where residents are out celebrating Independence Day with live music, loads of food vendors and also a fireworks show.

The day started with a parade beginning at the Selmer courthouse amd running all the way to the city park, where there were bounce houses and plenty of fun activities for the kids.

We spoke with Leon Coleman, lead singer of the Four Bolt Main, who tells us what Independence Day means to him.

“I know that I can get up in the morning and not have to worry about somebody telling me what I can or can’t do that day. I have the freedom of choice, freedom of speech, and the freedom to rock n’ roll,” said Coleman.

It’s been a challenging year for the Selmer community, and event organizers hope this event gives residents the chance to unwind, connect, and celebrate together.

“With everything that’s happened here recently, with the tornado, it’s more of bringing everybody together and just have a relaxed, fun day,” said Granville Llyod, sports coordinator for Selmer Parks and Rec.

Attendees enjoyed live music from Four Bolt Main, Mississippi Mojo, and Dwight Wadkins Band. There were also plenty of food vendors to choose from.

“It’s a time for us to all come together and celebrate our country and what our country means, and that’s everyone from rich, poor, any diversity of people. It’s for us to come together,” said Leigha Hamm, coordinator for Selmer Parks and Rec.

And the day is not over! If you still want to get out and celebrate Fourth of July, head to the Selmer City Park to enjoy the amazing fireworks show beginning at dark.
