Dresden/Latham communities celebrate Independence Day
DRESDEN, Tenn.—The holiday may be over but the fun continues in one local town.
The community of Latham in Dresden hosted its 5th annual Independence Day celebration Saturday. The festivities began at 4 in the evening at 5337 Highway 118.
There were plenty of activities for the entire family including bouncy houses, corn hole, and even free food.
The event offered guests the choice of hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn or visitors could purchase a fresh lemonade from one of the local vendors.
“Just go out and support your local fire departments. A lot of people don’t realize it’s a dying breed on the fire department side. Our annual budget is 35-thousand dollars. The county gives us 8-thousand the state doesn’t give us anything. We can do a grant for gear but the overall costs…You know we have to do fundraisers and stuff like that, so if you’re not in our area find your local fire department and if they have an event go out and support them,” said Sean Fulcher, Chief of Latham/Dukedom Volunteer Fire Department.
The event will conclude with a fireworks display after dark.
