Corn season is in full swing across West Tennessee
JACKSON, Tenn. — Farming season is in full swing across West Tennessee.
Sweet corn is all the rage in West Tennessee this summer. Several area farms are in full swing; already taking orders and allowing folks to set times to come pick their own corn.
Other smaller farms have sold out of corn.
We checked out the Humboldt Farmer’s Market Thursday morning. There we learned details of a new variety of sweet corn being grown here in West Tennessee this season
It’s called “Obsession” and according to Farmer Robert Gilliland, it tastes “sweeter than peaches and cream.”
Next, we went out to Crockett County to check in with some of our local farmers. First, we checked with the Branch Family’s Farm in Bells, who had already sold out of corn.
They sent us to the East family in Maury City, who is selling their sweet corn at $7 a dozen.
Another farmer here in West Tennessee grows sweet corn in the summer to teach her kids the power of hard work.
