WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

It was been a great Thursday for most of West Tennessee. We are watching a few light showers near the Mississippi border but most of us will be dry tonight. There will be a few isolated weak pop ups on Friday. A cold front will get closer this weekend and will spark up a few storms Saturday evening that will last into the day on Sunday. A couple strong storms could be possible. We will have the latest forecast information coming up right here.

THIS WEEK:

During the morning on Thursday the weak frontal boundary drifted south of West Tennessee keeping the isolated pop ups mostly into Mississippi this afternoon. The front will drift off to east tonight and that will leave southwest flow in overnight and into the day on Friday. The few showers we saw during the day will clear out making for a dry and pleasant night across our area. Highs reached the low 90s on Thursday and the winds varied in direction due to the weak boundary. Thursday night lows will fall down to the lows 7os as we head into Friday morning.

We are not expecting any severe weather on Friday but it will be hot and humid enough to create enough instability with the heat to spark up a few more storms or rain showers during the afternoon on Friday. Chances are 30% as of now to see a brief heavy rain shower or pop up storm. Some isolated lightning strikes and 30 mph winds seem to be the main concern on Friday. Expect a mostly sunny start and partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. The winds will come out of the west or southwest during the day and it will be a bit humid. The heat index will reach 100° or a bit higher for most of us in the afternoon and evening hours if you are not impacted by one the pop up showers. Highs will reach the low 90s again and lows will fall into the low 70s to kick off your weekend.

THIS WEEKEND:

As of now we are expecting some showers and storm chances for both days this weekend. We are likely going to be dry early on Saturday but by the late afternoon and evening hours, storms and showers chances will start. Chances for rain on Sunday are higher due to the fact the showers and storm chances will start earlier in the day on Sunday. A severe storm or two cannot be ruled out Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon but overall the severe threat is low. We could be under a level 1/5 (marginal risk) both day this weekend but an upgrade to a level 2 seems unlikely at this time.

Highs will reach the low 90s with the heat index being near 100° in the afternoon and evening so a shower or two might not be a bad thing if we can keep any gusty wind storms away. Expect a mostly sunny start on Saturday but in general, expect partly cloudy skies and the winds will look to come out of the west-southwest all weekend long. Chances for rain on Saturday right now are 40% and 60% on Sunday. If you have weekend plans just keep an eye on the forecast this weekend and the radar when you will get out and about. Any showers and storms that do develop will produce heavy rain and lightning and possibly some winds gusting up to 50mph. Be safe this weekend!
