Summer camps come together for youth health expo

JACKSON, Tenn. — Kids from all over Jackson came together for a full day of fun and learning.

Summer camps from all over the City of Jackson came to Jackson Central-Merry Thursday morning. The day was all about promoting healthy habits.

Bridgett Parham, the City’s Parks and Recreation Department Program and Recreation Manager, told us more about the day.

“The City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Department and SWAG are partnered together to have a youth health expo,” Parham said. “This expo is to educate our youth on healthy living, eating, wellness, and fitness.”

This yearly event is something that is highly anticipated every year.

“This is a day that we look forward to, especially our youth,” said Parham. “Not only do they get to be active and engaged, learning a lot of educational information on how to take care of their body, how to treat their body, what to put in their body, how to keep their body fit, they learn about a healthier lifestyle.”

There were a couple of speakers, including personal development coach Rocky Miller and Jackson Police Deputy Chief Derick Tisdale. Miller told us about his message to the campers.

“I use the I’s: impact, impart, and inform,” Miller said. “The impact that your teachers have on you, the impact that your parents have on you, your coaches, your mentors — that is going to go throughout your life. So don’t take for granted the impact.”

Deputy Chief Tisdale spoke to the students about the importance of setting yourself up for the future after you graduate high school.
