New farmers’ market to bring fresh, local produce to Henderson County
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — A community vision is coming to life in Lexington with plans to offer fresh produce.
A farmers’ market has broken ground on First Street. As you can see the lot is being prepared to be transformed into an accessible space that offers fresh and affordable food options for residents.
This project began when the Lexington-Henderson County Leadership Class of 2019 saw the need for more food options.
Other leadership classes joined in to help raise funds and construction began. They were awarded the Tennessee Ag Grant.
“We wanted to see a place where our local hobby-gardeners and farmers could bring their produce to sell,” said Christy Waugh, Lexington-Henderson County Leadership Class of 2024.
“And it’ll give us accessibility for those who want to come and buy affordable, fresh foods. That’s very important that we continue to give an option for healthy fresh foods to our community,” said Kristina Anderson, executive director of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce.
The farmers’ market will be available for use within the next 3 weeks.
