Doctor highlights importance of early detection amid rising cancer rates
Cancer rates are rising, and not just among older adults.
The number of breast and colorectal cancer diagnoses has been steadily rising since the mid-2000s, and these cancers are increasingly diagnosed at younger ages.
Dr. Rhonda Randall tells us why diagnostic and preventive services are critical, even for those under 50.
“So, it’s important to have a relationship with a primary care physician so that they can understand your individual risk factors. We know things like your age, your family history, your genetics, those are things we can’t change. We can change our lifestyle, and those are things we can do to help decrease our risk of preventable cancers,” said Dr. Randall.
Cancer detection services are powerful tools we have to fight cancer – yet many adults still skip them. Nationally, nearly 1 in 3 adults are not up to date on recommended screenings, even as certain cancer rates continue to climb.
