Love Your Block seeks volunteers who want to help make an impact

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Love Your Block program is looking for volunteers. This program in Jackson serves the community in different ways.

Their main focus is helping out people who need upkeep with their property. Each year, they have community volunteer days. In fact, a couple of them are right around the corner.

“We need volunteers to help us do small repairs for homeowners, landscaping, pressure washing–just small scale repairs for our residents. So if you, your kids, or church members want to participate in this great event,” said Elvia Trejo, neighborhood specialist for the City of Jackson.

All you need to do is send an email to loveyourblock@jacksontn.gov. You will need to include how many people you will be bringing.

There is no experience needed in order to help out.

“We had a few homeowners who have applied for our mini grants and their repairs are smaller scale, so it just needs the help of a few volunteers. We’ll provide all of the supplies needed. We’ll pay for all of that. We just need the man power,” said Trejo.

Citizens helping out fellow citizens is what Love Your Block is all about.

“We have done it since the beginning of Love Your Block. Initially, it was a volunteer-based program, then it evolved to us being able to hire contractors, but the heart of Love Your Block is volunteer work,” said Trejo.

The volunteer days are Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26. The goal is to work in the morning before noon, however, specific times will be decided once they know the amount of volunteers.

This is a great opportunity for the youth to help out the community. They can also learn different skills like planting, pressure washing and painting.
