Martha Lou Barnes
Martha was born in Madison County, TN on February 15, 1938 to the late John and Lois Barber Moling. She was an active member of Luray Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served as church clerk for a number of years.
Her husband, Billy I. (Red) Barnes preceded her in death in 1998. They were married for 37 years and was blessed with four sons and one daughter, nineteen grandchildren and thirty nine great grandchildren. She was known to everyone as “Granny” Barnes. She loved her family and church family very much.
She leaves to cherish her children, Eric Barnes (Tracy), John Barnes (Stacey), Stan Barnes (Ex Penny), Doug Barnes (Debbie), Lisa Buckley (Roger); 19 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny Moling, Jr., Kenneth Moling, and Robert Moling.
A service to celebrate the life of Martha Barnes will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with burial following in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon, two hours prior to the service.
Pallbearers to serve will be Joseph Barnes, Josh Barnes, Dakota Barnes, Kevin Buckley, Tyler Barnes, Andrew Barnes, and Trevor Barnes.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobo Jacobs, Richard Moling, Doug Moling, Isaac Hayes, Luke Buckley, and J.T. Barnes.
To My Children and Family: I love all of you so much. I’ll be waiting to see all of you when God gets ready for you. Always remember to live everyday like the Lord is calling for you because you don’t know when you will be called home to meet Jesus. Just be prepared! Love, Mama ‘Granny’
