Milan police pay special visit to kids in YMCA Summer Camp Program
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE MILAN POLICE DEPARTMENT:
MILAN, Tenn. — The Milan YMCA Summer Camp Program received a special visit last week from the Milan Police Department.

The kids got the opportunity to learn about how police conduct investigations by trying to solve the crimes of who stole the water bottle and who littered in the park which was instructed by Cpt. Vandiver, Inv. Fountain and Ptl. Holden.
During this investigation, the kids learned how investigators lift fingerprints, tag evidence and test for DNA.

The kids then got to play the role of a police officer while conducting a traffic stop with Lt. Geyra, SRO Sgt. Moore and Ptl. Cunningham.

They learned about traffic infractions, safety of officers and the public during a traffic stop, how to run a license plate, how to check licenses, insurance and registrations for drivers and concluded with making the decision of whether to write a ticket or give the driver a warning.
After the traffic stop, campers participated in a fun activity with Inv. Mitchell who talked to the children about self-esteem through storytelling and blowing up balloons.
Lastly, the campers went through an obstacle course activity that was instructed by Inv. Alexander and Ptl. Montoya.

Chief Bobby Sellers stated, “it is always a pleasure to work with our partners to have a positive impact on our youth. I am proud of our police officers who always take the extra step to help make these type of events a success.”
The kids had a great time while learning about our heroes in blue!
