A release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office states that they responded to a shots fired call where one individual was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

According to nearby residents, this kind of activity is unusual in their neighborhood.

“It’s very shocking to hear of a shooting or anything going on in my neighborhood,” said Tavaris Anderson, south Jackson resident.

Madison County Sheriff Julian Wiser says investigators are working diligently to uncover the events that led up to this tragedy.

Residents we spoke with in the neighborhood say they were at home at the time this incident occurred, and say they feel disheartened that this is happening in their community.

“It’s pretty shocking to me man–in this area of the neighborhood. There’s never anything major going on. I’ve been over here 10 plus years, and I’ve never had anything this major happen. It’s always pretty calm and quiet around here,” said Anderson.

We checked in with authorities Monday and learned the incident is still under investigation and, at this time, the identity of the victim has not been released.

We asked Anderson for his thoughts on how crime is maintained in his community.

“There’s more control here in jackson. The police do a very good job, especially out here in our south area. The 10 years i’ve been over here it’s been real pleasurable,” said Anderson.

Witnesses in the area reported seeing two black males fleeing on foot eastbound from the scene. According to a release, the suspects are believed to be between the ages of 15 and 17, up to 5’9 in height and both weigh between 120 to 140 pounds.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators are urged to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 731-423-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 731 424-8477.
