Even Hotter Weather in the Middle of the Week, Rain Chances Slim for a Few Days!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

We are smack dab in the middle of a heat wave and under the heat dome here in West Tennessee. We are under a heat advisory today but will be upgraded to a Extreme Heat Warning for Tuesday and Wednesday. The heat index this afternoon is between 105-110° but is forecast to get above 110° the next two days. We will likely stay hot through the work week and may cool down a little bit, but not much this weekend. There is a stalled out stationary front just east of the Tennessee river that could bring a few showers northeast of Madison county this evening; but after that, rain chances are slim to none for a few days. Catch the latest on the heat and I will let you know where there is a better shot for some rain coming up here.

THIS WEEK:

After dealing with a very hot weekend, we didn’t get a break in the heat on Monday and we will not be getting a break anytime soon. In fact, it is likely going to be even hotter in the middle of the week than it was over the weekend and on Monday when we hit 95° with a heat index as high as 107°. During the middle of the week, highs will reach the upper 90s and the feels-like “heat index” is forecast to reach as high as 110° and at times as high as 115°. We will fall short of high temperature records but it is going to be extremely hot!

There are a few showers lingering around northeast of Madison county Monday evening as a stationary boundary is still just east of the Tennessee River and near Kentucky Lake. This boundary is located just far enough away that most of us will not see any rain chances tonight. The most likely location to get a brief shower or weak storm this evening/tonight will be areas to the northeast of Madison county. The closer you are to Kentucky Lake the better chance you will have of seeing some rain tonight. Skies will remain partly cloudy tonight and the winds will turn up calm. This will make for a muggy and warm night with lows falling down to the mid 70s to kick off our Tuesday.

An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for all of West Tennessee on Tuesday. An Extreme Heat Warning (used to be called an Excessive Heat Warning last year) gets issued when the “feels like” temperatures will reach up to or above 110° for 2-3 hours or more. Skies will be mostly sunny on Tuesday and rain chances are 5% at best. The winds will be light and come out of the west but it is going to be a very hot and humid day. Tuesday night lows will fall down to the upper 70s is all overnight.

The extreme heat warnings will be extended on Wednesday and maybe Thursday as well. Highs are expected to reach 97-98° for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will only be seeing a few clouds developing each afternoon and evening and rain showers look unlikely until Friday at the earliest. The heat index will approach 110° or higher as well for both Wednesday and Thursday. The winds will come out of the southeast on Wednesday and move back to the southwest on Thursday. Morning lows will drop to the mid to upper 70s as we head into the end of the work week.

Chances for rain return on Friday but chances are not great. We will see a 10-15% chance on Friday but that chance will climb a bit as we head into the weekend. We will see more clouds on Friday than in the middle of the week but we will still see plenty of sunshine as well. We will call it partly cloudy and the winds will come out of the south on Friday and be light. Highs will still reach the mid 90s and the “feels like” temperatures will again be in the middle 100s. Friday night will fall down to around 75° to kick off our weekend.

THIS WEEKEND:

We are expecting another hot weekend but there will be more clouds over the weekend than we saw during the middle of the week. This will keep temperatures a tad cooler but highs are still forecast to reach the mid 90s both days for the upcoming weekend. We are expecting partly cloudy skies this weekend with maybe some clouds on Sunday than Saturday. The best shot for rain in the forecast is coming on Sunday but chances are only 30% at this time. Rain chances on Saturday are 20%. The winds will come out of the southwest on Saturday and shift closer to the west on Sunday. Morning lows will still only drop down to the mid 70s. It will be hot and humid this weekend but we will probably only be under a heat advisory and not an extreme heat warning.
