Mary “Christine” Sowell Sisk
Mary “Christine” Sowell Sisk passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025 as hymns from her old Oakfield Methodist Church days drifted through her mind. Christine, or “Memaw” to some of those she loved most—her grandkids, great-grandkids, and every friend they ever brought through the door—left this world with the same spark that carried her through it.
Christine was born on September 21,1930 as the daughter of John Thomas Sowell and Beulah Mae Sowell of Oakfield, Tn. She graduated from Northside High School and was a life long member of the Oakfield Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Larry Sisk Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Young (Jimmy) of South Pittsburg, Tn and Sherry Warren (David) of Scotts Hill, Tn and her grandchildren Kevin Coleman (Jessica), Chelsea Ryden (Clayton), Kyle Coleman and Courtney Coplin (Dallas.) She also delighted in her great-grandchildren: Claire Coleman, Madison Coleman, Annalyn Coplin, Gus and Crockett Ryden. She is proceeded in death by two brothers, Odell (Peggy) and Edward Thomas (Billie Ruth) Sowell and grandson, Stone Ryden. She leaves a cousin and dear friend, Marie Crowe.
Christine had a deep well of love under her spunky exterior. She channeled it into every story, every sleepover and every snack. In her later years you could find her watching old Westerns and asking life’s important questions like, “Do you think The Walking Dead will ever bring Rick back?” or “Why won’t Steph Curry shave? He plays better with a clean face, you know.”
She lived her life with an open heart and an open door. And if she taught us anything, besides how to make the best fried potato sandwiches, it’s that the memories we make together are what we carry forward. Thanks to Memaw, we’ve got some of the very best.
A service to celebrate the life of Christine Sisk will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. A private burial for immediate family will be held at Oakfield Cemetery. The family will begin receiving family and friends at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Oakfield Cemetery Fund c/o James Fullerton, 3627 Old Medina Rd., Oakfield, TN 38362.
