Tax-free weekend: Ways to maximize your back-to-school budget
JACKSON, Tenn. — Tax-free weekend is almost here, and it’s just in time for the school season.
From Friday, July 25 to Sunday, July 27, shoppers can purchase all of those back-to-school necessities without paying sales tax, that’s a nearly 10% saving.
But that’s not all, several stores are also bringing you even more deals.
“We usually do a big sale in connection with the tax-free because that gives people more bang for their buck, so we are having a sale on the entire store. A lot of $5, $10, $20 racks for our men’s, and women’s, and kid’s,” said Tamy Lewis, owner of Sassy Grace/Southern Gent.
If you’re looking for clothing for the entire family, small businesses, like Sassy Grace/Southern Gent and Mags & Lulu, are great places to visit. The tax exemption only applies to general clothing priced at $100 or less.
“We have a few men’s things that are over $100 like our Duckhead Sports shirts and some of the Southern Tide quarter sips. We will still do tax-free to the customer, and I will, Sassy Grace will just take care of the tax on the part of it that’s over $100,” said Lewis.
Now is also a great time to shop for some electronics.
Visit your local electronics store to find some great deals for your next computer, laptop, or tablet that’s priced at 15 hundred dollars or less.
School supplies that are $100 or less are also exempt from sales tax.
And if you’re not a big in-person shopper, here’s some good news. The tax-free deals also apply to online purchases.
