Slightly Cooler Today With Spotty Rain Chances, Major Heat Returning Next Week

Saturday Morning Weather

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

A slight amount cooler Today with the lower 90s, however, a heat advisory remains in effect until 9 pm tonight. For the first time in a while, the heat index should stay below 105° this weekend. The best shot for rain in awhile is coming for later this afternoon through early evening. That being said, chances are only 30%. Chances are lower on Sunday and dry and hot weather is expected to return into the beginning of the next work week. We have a shot for our first 100s of the summer next week. There is a light at the end of the heat tunnel though and we will tell you when that will be showing up coming up here.

THIS PAST WEEK:

After dealing with a very hot weekend, we didn’t get a break in the heat for the first half of the work week and we will not be getting a break anytime soon. We did cool down some on Thursday and Friday, but we were still above normal and under heat advisories. It is likely going to stay hot for the next 5 days across the Mid South.  Earlier in the week, highs reached the upper 90s and the feels-like “heat index” reached as high as 110° and at times close to 115°. We fell short of high temperature records but it was extremely hot with Wednesday reaching 97° in Jackson (the hottest day of 2025 so far). We are probably going to be hotter than that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Chances for rain returned on Friday but chances were not great. We will see a 10-15% chance Friday evening but that chance will climb a bit as we head into the weekend. We saw more clouds on Friday than in the middle of the week but we still saw plenty of sunshine as well. We will call it partly cloudy day and the winds were light and come out of the south on Friday. Highs still reached the low to mid 90s and the “feels like” temperatures will again be in the low to middle 100s. Friday night will fall down to around 75° to kick off our weekend.

THIS WEEKEND:

We are expecting another hot weekend but there will be more clouds over the weekend than we saw during the middle of the week. This will keep temperatures a tad cooler but highs are still forecast to reach the lower 90s Saturday and mid 90s on Sunday. We are expecting partly cloudy skies this weekend with maybe more clouds on Sunday than Saturday.

The best shot for rain in the forecast is coming on Sunday but chances are only 30% at this time. Rain chances on Saturday are 30%. The winds will come out of the southwest on Saturday and shift closer to the west on Sunday. Morning lows will still only drop down to the mid 70s. It will be hot and humid this weekend and we might be under a heat advisory but an extreme heat warning is not coming this weekend.

NEXT WEEK:

Extreme heat is coming back early next week and we could see our first 100s of the year. We will at least be in the upper 90s for the first 3 days of the work week. There is a front coming late in the week that will bring some showers and storms and a nice little cooldown with it. As of now, we are expected that front to start to impact our weather on Thursday with Thursday being the most likely day to see showers and storms next week as well.

The forecast is 97 Monday, 98 Tuesday and 99 on Wednesday. By Friday, we could drop down to around 90. The winds will be light all week and will start out of the west before moving to the northwest, north nad then the northeast but Friday. An area of high pressure will move through keeping mostly sunny skies away for the first half of the week as well. We will be under heat advisories and probably extreme heat warnings again next week so be prepared for more heat!
