New ambulance service launches in Brownsville
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — A new ambulance service in Brownsville is in full swing. Friday morning, the Ambulance Services of Lexington – Brownsville EMS celebrated a soft grand opening.
“We couldn’t ask for a better turnout for our soft opening today, August 1st. We’re ready to make calls. We’ve already made a few this morning,” said James “Teddy” Waldrop, Operations Manager, Ambulance Services of Lexington – Brownsville EMS.
Brownsville Fire Chief Lynn Sanders says this started in response to needing to improve public services.
“It is going to be a game changer for the citizens here,” Chief Sanders said. “The response times are going to be improved. We have our hospital back now here that was closed at one time, so everything that we are doing is moving forward for our community to improve the public services. That is what it is all about. We want to be here to help our citizens.”
The introduction of the new ambulance services stems from a joint effort between the Brownsville Fire Department and Ambulance Services of Lexington Inc., owned by Braden Health.
“We’ve worked really hard with city officials to be able to provide this enhanced EMS service; to be able to provide better medical care than what was available before, expanded protocol, additional ambulances to be able to support the community that was without a hospital for so long,” said Kyle Kopec, Chief Compliance Officer, Ambulance Services of Lexington.
Ambulance services of Lexington – Brownsville EMS has two ambulances stationed at fire station #3, while the third is stationed at the hospital.
Haywood County as a whole now has five ambulances: two in Haywood County and three in the City of Brownsville.
The plan moving forward is to incorporate further training for first responders.
