JACKSON, Tenn.—One organization helps to prepare students for a successful school year.

The I-Care Back to School Summit was held Saturday in Jackson.

The event kicked off at 10 in the morning on the campus of Destiny Church.

Guests included Councilman Johnny Dodd who gave the opening message along with members of JPD who delivered information about the dangers of Fentanyl.

The summit also had several other speakers on hand offering workshops. Speakers included Dr. Shemon Reeves, along with representatives from the Positive Living Group, and Safe Hope Center.

Topics discussed included success in school, mental health awareness, and having peace at home.

The I-Care event featured vendors on site, as well as giveaways for door prizes and school uniform vouchers.

“We want to educate and empower our community when is comes to gangs, fentanyl, mental health, peaceful homes, and how to have a successful school year. We want to do all of that but we also want to empower them by meeting the need, so we are doing that simultaneously,” said Rhonda Pettigrew, Pastor of Destiny Church of Jackson.

I-Care was created with the purpose of reducing violence while strengthening the local community.

Members of the organization include, law enforcement, school and church officials along with other community leaders.
