BBB warns of scam involving fake tariff relief programs

JACKSON, Tenn. — We were able to hear from the Better Business Bureau regarding the latest scam they are warning people about.

This particular scam involves tariffs.

Scammers are contacting people via phone and email claiming that you owe money from tariffs.

They also may offer fake tariff relief programs like gift cards, rebates, or digital payments.

They are looking to get some sensitive information from you. It is always important to do your research.

Todnetta Trice with the Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South gives us some tips on how to do this.

“Inspect the websites and messages as carefully as you can look out for poor grammar, misspellings, and suspicious URLs,” Trice said. “Legitimate government emails always end in .Gov.”

There has not been any local reports of this scam yet. However, there have been plenty of them popping up around the country recently.
