More residents react to Drummond’s capture after week-long manhunt
JACKSON, Tenn. — Emotions are all over the place as tensions settle now that wanted fugitive Austin Drummond has been captured.
According to local residents we spoke with Wednesday, the tragedy still weighs on the community in some ways. In fact, some even shed tears.
“Well what he did was wrong, but I have a son his age and I hate that he’s ruined his life and also lives of others, so my heart goes out to him and his family and I prayed for them yesterday,” said a Madison County resident who did not wish to share their name.
Even amongst local officials, people were unnerved by the criminal’s presence in northwest Madison County neighborhoods.
“Well personally, feeling that he’s in the county is nerve-wracking. He was actually apprehended a mile from my house,” said Madison County Mayor A.J. Massey.
Mayor Massey said he was proud of the response from all law enforcement agencies on the local, state, and federal levels. He also said Madison County law enforcement’s technology will be reviewed to check for any opportunities to make improvements should another crime like this occur in our area.
“As a father and as a husband my role is to protect my family and to have someone at that level of criminality in our community rarely happens. And so you know if he’s willing to commit violence against other people we know that it might happen again and so we were very diligent,” said Mayor Massey.
Drummond’s arraignment has been scheduled for Thursday , August 7. Stay tuned for further coverage.
