Nonprofit kick starts fundraiser for life-sized cougar statue at Hub City Central Stadium

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Jackson high school is offering a chance for alumni and supporters to leave a lasting legacy.

The “I am JCM Coalition” kick started a fundraiser for a life-sized cougar statue that is planned for installation at the new Hub City Central Stadium this fall.

“It means strength, it means resilience, it means unity. Those three things are so important for us to make sure that this is instilled and it also gives support to the community,” said Andre Darnell, board president and co-founder of the I am JCM Coalition.

According to the I am JCM Coalition, the statue is already built and already has a deposit paid for.

The fundraiser will allow donors to get a brick engraved on the legacy brick walkway that will lead to the stadium.

“The statue and the platform we knew that this was not going to innovate a lot of the students as well as a lot of alumni, so I wanted to actually open it up and brand it out into a walkway that would bring in more businesses, more limelight, more supporters,” said Darnell.

Those who donate at least $100 will be able to get a brick engraved with up to three lines of text.

There are also corporate packages available that will allow for a company’s logo engraved on a brick with an additional two lines of text.

All donations over $5 will be accepted to donate to the I am JCM Coalition. Click here to make a donation.

The fundraising campaign is expected to end around September 30.
