UPDATE: Two fatalities following swimming incident in Hardin Co.

HARDIN CO., Tenn.—Two bodies recovered from the river in Hardin County.

The following information was obtained from Hardin County Fire Department, Savannah Tennessee.

“On August 9,2025 at approximately 4:15 PM Hardin County Fire responded to an incident on the Tennessee river involving three individuals. This was not a boating incident, three adults were swimming near the shore and the current swept them into deeper water. One individual was able to be rescued by a nearby boat the other two individuals, unfortunately drowned, both bodies have been recovered by Hardin County fire department divers.Please say a prayer for the friends and family of those involved.”

Water rescue underway in Hardin County

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn.—Authorities are in search of person(s) in the water near the area of Wolf Island, and River Heights in Hardin County.

Tipsters reached out to us just after 5 this evening claiming a boating accident in Hardin County has led to the search for two individuals and possible death of at least one person near the River Heights area.

Other sources also report that Hardin County and TWRA are on scene in the area of Wolf Island at River Heights and that dive teams are on scene searching for victims.

We spoke with Amy Snider-Spencer, TWRA, Region 1 Public Relations, who indicated that it was not a boating accident but instead involved swimmers. She made no mention of fatalities at this time. She also stated that Hardin County Rescue is the lead on the incident with TWRA only assisting.
