West TN Healthcare celebrates 75 years

JACKSON , Tenn.–West Tennessee Healthcare is celebrating 75 years of care!

The organization held a special luncheon Sunday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Sunday’s celebration was invitation only and took place in the cafeteria beginning at 2 in the afternoon and continued until 4pm.

The hospital opened in Jackson on August 11,1950 as a 123-bed community hospital and over the past 75 years has grown into a 642-bed tertiary care center.

“We have almost every kind of specialty care you can imagine between Nashville and Memphis. We are not a trauma center and we don’t handle things like burns, but we have the highest level neonatal unit in the region. We also have the number one heart team in the entire state,” said Amy Garner, Chief of Communications Officer for West Tennessee Healthcare.

The organization continues its mission caring for those within the 19 counties of rural West TN.

West TN Healthcare employs around 7,000 healthcare professionals with the majority of those based at its Jackson hospital location.
