Electric truck mass production at BlueOval City delayed to 2028

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — A local automotive plant is experiencing another delay.

Back in September of 2021, Ford Motor Company announced plans to build an electric vehicle assembly plant in Haywood County.

The $5.6 billion plant was expected to have electric vehicles rolling off the assembly line by 2025.

Now, after a series of delays, prototype builds of the mid-size electric truck are expected to start in late 2027 and mass production at the Stanton plant has been delayed to 2028.

We spoke with Aaron Stewart, with Brownsville-Haywood County EDC, for more information.

“It gives us a little bit more breathing room to keep building out,” Stewart said. “We’re looking at building a new school, the City of Brownsville is looking at investing in its wastewater system, we’re also investing in other areas of infrastructure as well as public safety.”

Stewart emphasized that Ford Motor Company has not pulled back on any of the company’s commitments to West Tennessee.
