Few Pop Ups Again Thursday, Another Heat Wave Coming this Weekend!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

The heat is coming back this weekend to West Tennessee. The big question is, how humid is it going to be. If the dew points stays around 70°, we will not have a heat index over 105°; but if they dew point climbs up to near 80°, our heat index will reach over 115°. One of those two scenarios seems more likely that the other at this time. There could also be a decent cold front coming towards the back half of next week and that is when most of us will pick up our next chance for showers and storms. We will tell you all about it coming up here.

THIS WEEK:

The best chances for rain this was on our Wednesday. Not everyone saw rain as chance were only 50%, but many of us did. Some storms mixed in with the rain showers but lightning and some increased winds again were the main threats that developed. The shower coverage was the greatest in the afternoon and evening hours. Highs still reached the low 90s and the winds were light and varied in direction as the front moved through the area. In general we saw partly cloudy skies and overnight lows will drop down to around 70°.

Another round of showers and storms are expected to develop again on Thursday for areas across West Tennessee. As of now, chances are 20% as the second of two fronts will drift just to the north of the Mid South allowing enough instability for some pop up to develop again. The winds will come out of the west and highs will make it up to around 90°. Skies will be partly cloudy again and overnight lows will fall down to the low 70s. Most of us will pick up some showers between Tuesday and Thursday but there will be a few people who will miss out due to the nature of the pop up type storms.

Friday things will begin to dry out but there still could be a few showers on Friday depending on how fast the cold front clears out during the day. Expect mostly sunny skies and the winds to return to the southwest in the afternoon. Highs will start to climb up a bit and reach the low to maybe mid 90s in the afternoon. Chances for rain on Friday is only 20% but chances will be even lower for the upcoming weekend. Friday night lows will fall down to the low to mid 70s to kick off our weekend.

THIS WEEKEND:

Another hot and mostly dry weekend appears to be on tap for us in West Tennessee. Highs will reach the mid 90s and even some upper 90s will be possible on Sunday for some of us. Rain chances are low this weekend with Sunday maybe bringing a little better chance for rain that Saturday. Expect a mostly sunny weekend and the winds will be light and come out of the southwest for the most part. The heat index could be over 100° this weekend as the southwest winds will be increasing the humidity a bit as the weekend goes on. A heat advisory looks possible at this time. We still have over 5 weeks of summer to go so expect the hot weather to linger into next week!
