Weekend Preview: Events and activities in West Tennessee

JACKSON, Tenn. — Get ready for a weekend filled with everything from fairs and festivals, to adventurous fundraisers.

This weekend features a lineup of events that are sure to create lasting memories for you and your family – let’s jump right in.

The Obion County Fair kicks off Friday night at the Obion County Fairgrounds in Union City, and runs until August 23. The carnival opens Friday evening at 6 and junk car races begin at 7. Saturday’s events include the rodeo, a live concert by Warren Montgomery, and the Miss Obion County “Fairest of the Fair” pageant. Each weekend for the month of August, you can experience the West Tennessee Cotton Festival. Bring your kiddos out to Crockett Mills this Saturday morning at 10 for the kiddie tractor pull! The truck and tractor pull takes places at 7 in the evening and admission is $15.

There are a couple of events happening for the animal lovers out there.

First up, if you bought tickets to the “Denim and Diamonds” fundraiser for Hardeman Adoptable Animals this weekend, get ready to bid on some amazing experiences at the silent auction, including an ultimate NASCAR driving experience, a trip to Cabo San Lucas and more! It’s all taking place Saturday evening from 6-10 at The Robins Nest in Toone. And of course, don’t forget to pair your favorite jeans with a touch of bling for this event.

Next up for the animal lovers is the Exotic Pet Expo at the Jackson Fairgrounds. This event is a big hit every year, featuring reptiles to small mammals, birds and more. This event will be Saturday from 9-5 and Sunday from 10-4.

From animals to bikers and those who live to ride!

It’s not a poker run — but it’s similar and all for a great cause. The Golden Circle H.O.G. Chapter is hosting a scavenger hunt ride benefitting Mental Health Development Services. Riders can expect six scenic stops where they will have to take a selfie. Those who hit each stop can win up to a $200 gift card to Bumpus Harley Davidson in Jackson. Registration starts a 9 Saturday morning and its $25 per rider, and $10 per passenger.

These events are great for the family, animal lovers or bike enthusiasts.
