Governor Lee visits West Tennessee as manufacturer announces expansion

ALAMO, Tenn. — Governor Bill Lee and Economic Development Commissioner Stuart McWhorter joined Hitachi Energy officials today to announce a major expansion in Crockett County.

Hitachi Energy is investing more than $97 million into its Alamo facility, creating 100 new jobs.

The announcement was made Wednesday during a celebration of the expansion with elected officials, community leaders, and hardworking employees.

The move solidifies the company’s role as the second-largest employer in Crockett County.

“What happens in Crockett County is actually what changes the lives of Tennesseans,” said Governor Bill Lee. “It’s happening not only in Crockett, but in counties all over the state, as our poverty rate drops because of opportunity. As our opportunity rate rises because of the investment of companies like Hitachi.”

The investment will boost manufacturing of high-voltage direct current bushings that are critical for power grids around the world.

“Today what we are talking about is the energy of revolution that’s happening in America,” said Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN). “Hitachi’s going to play a critical role with what’s going to be produced right here in Crockett County, Tennessee. Keeping America at the forefront of the energy revolution means we are going to stay at the forefront of artificial intelligence, all of the new automation and technology that’s going to come through robotics. ”

Japan’s Hitachi group is tackling the rising demand for energy. And this isn’t just a local win—they are already a top investor in Tennessee.

Japan has more than 200 companies bringing $20 billion and 57,000 jobs to the state.
