Crash halts eastbound traffic on I-40

UPDATE (2:15 p.m.) — THP says both lanes have reopened but traffic is moving slowly as crews work to clear debris. THP also confirms a second wreck occurred near the site after the initial crash.


UPDATE (1:35 p.m.) — According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the wreck involves “severe injury.” At this time, one of the eastbound lanes is now open, however the other lane is expected to be closed for “quite a while.”


CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. — A late morning crash Friday continues to have traffic backed up on I-40 East toward Nashville. 

The crash involved a FedEx semi-truck and a white commercial van. The van landed upside down on the interstate, as shown in photos shared to Downtown Rickey Brown Traffic Spotters Network by Rob B.

We have reached out to the Tennessee Highway Patrol for more information and have crews working to get to the scene.
