Jackson police arrest suspect in Roosevelt Parkway homicide

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT:

[Jackson, TN] – On Friday, August 22, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 200 block of Roosevelt Parkway.

Upon arrival, officers located Sherman Mays, a 22-year-old male, suffering from a gunshot wound. Mr. Mays was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Following an investigation, Jackson Police Department detectives identified 19-year-old Michael Hunt as a suspect in the fatal shooting. Hunt was taken into custody on Monday, August 25, around 6:00 p.m. on unrelated charges.

Hunt is now being formally charged with Second Degree Murder in connection with the death of Sherman Mays. He is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges in Jackson City Court on the morning of Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
