President of Southern Baptist Convention speaks at local university

JACKSON, Tenn. — A new school year brings excitement as students meet new friends and expand their knowledge. At Union University, a new school year also means chapel returns to campus.

For the first chapel of the semester, students and faculty gathered to hear Clint Pressley, president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

He shared a message encouraging students to learn to trust an all-controlling God.

“I want to set the tone that there’s going to be a lot happening, as it does in life. If you live long enough, things happen, and it’s good to remember you can trust that God is actually doing something good. It’s the old Romans 8:28 that he’s working all things together for good. This is just the old testament version of that new testament verse,” said Pressley.

The scripture of the day comes from the book of Exodus, chapter 11. G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel was overflowing as attendees came to hear the message and receive chapel credits.

“I mean it’s so encouraging to come and stand here in front of students. They weren’t just here. If you were standing where I was, you saw them listening. They were interacting, had their bibles open. It gives you some at least hope for the next generation,” said Pressley.

Pressley encourages everyone to trust God with all aspects of their lives.

Another part of Pressley’s sermon was to also demonstrate to future ministers at the university how they can utilize expositional preaching to reach an audience.
