Wrongfully denied an insurance claim? Here’s your chance to have the decision reversed
JACKSON, Tenn. — A large amount of money has been returned to Tennesseans so far this year, and it may break some records.
Almost $8 million has been returned to Tennesseans so far in 2025 through the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (TDCI) mediation and restitution efforts. Kevin Walters, with TDCI, tells us why this money has been given.
“The money that has been returned to consumers is money that we helped get back to consumers after they’ve filed complaints with us whenever they feel as if they have been unfairly denied a claim,” said Walters.
So basically, if your insurance company denies covering a claim of yours, you may be able to get that decision reversed.
“When you file a complaint with us about the denial you’ll need to provide your paperwork, you’ll need to provide your proof of coverage in Tennessee. If this incident happened outside of Tennessee, we cannot help you,” said Walters.
A lot of people may not ever have to use their insurance. Or, it may have been a long time since you originally got your insurance. It is important to know the details of your coverage.
“As your life changes, your needs are going to change. Your insurance coverage is going to change. We remind consumers, every year, reach out to their licensed insurance professional,” said Walters.
A record breaking $17.5 million was returned in 2024. If you want to learn more about filing a complaint, click here.
