International Overdose Awareness Day event held in north Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — Hub City residents gathered for a day of raising awareness, and remembering those who have passed due to an overdose.

August 31 marked International Overdose Awareness Day.
In remembrance of those who lost their lives, residents gathered for an event at Liberty Park in north Jackson on Tuesday evening. The event also featured recovery speakers and overdose prevention resources.
“We’re able to provide training and free access to Narcan or Naloxone kits for people who are at high risk who need them to help prevent an overdose,” said Sarah Mays with the Jackson-Madison Prevention Coalition (JMPC).
“I feel that in this community, being a recovery community we needed to be able to stand and be a voice for those who are still silent suffering an addiction and those who we have lost,” said Amanda Graves with the Jackson Area Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (JACOA).
The event was hosted by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, JACOA, and JMPC.
