Bettye Dephane Baker
Bettye Dephane Baker, age 83, of Medina, TN, passed away peacefully at her home on September 3, 2025, surrounded by love.
She was born on February 3, 1942, in Marshall County, TN, the daughter of Edward Clayton Franklin and Elizabeth Wall Franklin. From an early age, Bettye had a caring spirit, a strong work ethic, and a heart devoted to her family.
Bettye began her career at the law office of Knox Bingham in Lewisburg before moving to Jackson in 1965 with her first husband, Joe Lynn Casteel. Later, in 1981, she married Fred Baker and continued building a full and meaningful life. Over the years, she worked at the law office of Jim Diamond, with Construction Products, and eventually in banking, where she found her true calling. She retired from Simmons Bank in 2020 after many years of dedicated service and friendships made along the way.
More than her work, Bettye will be remembered for her love of family. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her greatest joy came from time spent with them. She also had a gift for gardening, finding peace and beauty in the flowers and plants she so lovingly tended.
She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, her husbands, Joe Lynn Casteel and Fred Baker, and her grandson, Daniel Timothy Yarbro, Jr.
Those who will continue to cherish her memory include her daughter, Lisa Casteel Kinkade of Medina; her grandson, Carl Clayton Yarbro (McKenzie); her great-grandchild, Emerson Boone Yarbro, all of Gibson County; as well as many beloved relatives in Middle Tennessee.
Bettye faced her battle with cancer with incredible courage and grace. Her family is especially grateful for the prayers, kindness, and support shown by dear friends and neighbors. A heartfelt thank-you is given to Kenny Kinkade, Pamela Vinson, and Tammy Murphree for their loving care.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her life on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg, TN.
Bettye will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, and the love she shared so freely.
