Doctor talks GLP-1 medications, weight loss results

JACKSON, Tenn. — A journey in weight loss can be a long and challenging one for many people.

New data from Hims & Hers looking at thousands of patients shows that personalized GLP-1 plans lost an average of 20.9 pounds within six months. Dr. Craig Primack, Head of Weight Loss with Hims & Hers, tells us what this is.

“It stands for glucagon-like-peptide-1,” Dr. Primack said. “What we see with that, it decreased overall hunger. It is a part of a comprehensive approach so people can be really successful in their weight loss.”

Personalizing doses is an important part of the process to make sure there are minimal side effects. Less than 11% of people had any side effects with a personalized GLP-1 dose.

“What does that really translate into? People really stay on treatment. In the branded drugs in the communities, what we see overall in a different study, about 80% of people drop out actually over six months. This is because of side effects, because of costs and so forth,” said Dr. Primack.

Sherry Anderson began her journey last year and was able to share with us some of her experiences.

“I’m able to be more active,” Anderson said. “My self confidence has come back. The things that aren’t necessarily tied with the scale, that’s what keeping me going and that’s what will always keep me going. It is because I like the way I feel now.”

Anderson tells us that if you are thinking about it, go ahead and start a plan. She also says to take pictures along the way.

There are plenty of options out there to get started with a personalized plan. Finding one online can cut down your start time tremendously.
