Construction starts soon for new department at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County General Hospital is getting ready to construct a new ER branch.

The Highly Infectious Diseases Department will be adjacent to the Emergency Department and will house 20 rooms.

The project will include closing portions of Emergency Drive, parking areas and entrances.

We spoke with the vice president of operations at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, James Fountain, regarding the planned construction.

“It’s geared for highly infectious diseases. We don’t know when we’ll have the next pandemic and hopefully we won’t have another one in quite a while. The emergency department will be unaffected during this renovation. I talked about emergency being shut down on one side from skyline, but our main entrances to the facility–to the hospital–remain open,” said Fountain.

Construction will begin September 10 and last through October 1 at the earliest.
