Carroll County correctional officer arrested for assault in pepper spray incident

HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — A local correctional officer was arrested, stemming from an incident last fall at the Carroll County jail.

Jordan Hughes (9/9/25)

39-year-old Jordan Patrick Hughes was booked into the same jail around 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to records available online, and he bonded out of custody just a little more than an hour later.

An indictment shows that Hughes is charged with assault for an October 10, 2024 incident involving inmate Johnathan Pierpoint.

Security camera footage shared by Pierpoint earlier this year on social media appears to show Hughes, who was on-duty as a correctional officer, enter Pierpoint’s cell and spray him with pepper spray while he was seated.

Records show that a grand jury found Hughes did intentionally and knowingly cause Pierpoint to suffer bodily injury, leading to the assault charge.

Hughes’ bail was set at $1,000. Online records indicate that he has a criminal hearing scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on October 2 before Judge J. Brent Bradberry.
