Educator of the Week: Will Rigby
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Will Rigby teaches sophomore English and is the Assistant Football Coach at Crockett County High School.
He tells is what made him decided to pursue a career in education.
“I was sitting in a kind of a lunch room at just a factory that I was working in. And I was thinking to myself, I said, ‘I think I would love being a teacher.’ And I wanted to. And I’ve kind of always wanted to my whole life, be a coach and a teacher. So I just kind of pushed it off to the side. And then one day, enough was enough. I kind of went after it,” Rigby said.
Rigby has been a teacher for five years. He shares how adapting to students personal needs is important.
“My style, I kind of just try to adapt it to whatever the student needs,” Rigby said. “I wouldn’t say there’s any one specific style, but I know some students are better visual learners. Some students have to just do it in order to grasp whatever it is that I’m trying to teach. If you try to teach every student the same, you’re probably not going to be successful.”
He tells us what his favorite part of teaching is.
“The kids, getting to see the kids grow and just coaching, too, just getting to see the kids develop and grow up, that’s the best part. That’s the most rewarding part. And that’s why anybody who’s teaching actually does it.”
Rigby also shares some words of wisdom for future educators.
“Find you a school that’s going to support you. Here at Crockett County, I get so much support from my administration, and my fellow teachers are always pouring into me and doing what they can to help make me better. I think if you’re going to get an education where you teach at matters and find a community that you want to invest in.”
Rigby is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
